Distance Learning: Remote Resource Guide for Students

The following resources are available to students.

What video conferencing software is available?

Both Google Hangouts Meet and Zoom are available to Luther students.

How can I record my presentation or assignment?

In addition to using a smartphone or video camera, you can record your work using Zoom, Google Meet, VoiceThread, or built-in software on your PC or Mac.

How can I get Microsoft Office?

As an alternative to Google Docs, Microsoft Office is available at no cost to current students on personally-owned devices. Students can visit office.com and either use a web-based version of Office 365 or download the core Office 365 apps. For more information, visit Microsoft Office.

How can I get SPSS?

Current Luther students can install IBM SPSS Statistics on their personally-owned Windows or macOS computers. For more information, visit SPSS for Students.

How can I submit assignments electronically rather than on paper?

If your instructor has assigned a particular method, please use the information they provide. If the assignment may be completed in any method you choose, know that you can save a file as a PDF and then upload the file to KATIE or send it as an email attachment. For Windows, select "Print" from any application, change the printer to "Save as PDF" and choose a name for your file. Here are the steps for Mac.

How can I access library materials from a distance?

You still have access to library resources through the library catalog and databases. Start at the Library homepage (https://luther.edu/library) and login using your Norse Key when prompted. You can request an item held in the library stacks by clicking the blue Request item through Interlibrary Loan button. We will do our best to connect you with the resources you need to complete research assignments through scanning and/or alternate delivery options.

You can also Email a Librarian or Make an Appointment to talk with a Librarian via Norse Apps (Hangouts Meet, Email, etc.). Visit our Remote Access page to learn more about doing research from a distance.

What other resources are there to use in my classes?

LinkedIn Learning is an online course website offering video courses taught by industry experts in software, creative, and business skills. Visit linkedinlearning.luther.edu and sign in with your Norse Key username and password to view available content.
