Music Scholarships

Music scholarships: three trumpet students perform

Luther offers a wide variety of scholarships and awards based on musical talent, regardless of chosen major. Music scholarships are considered a Talent Award, just like theatre and dance scholarships. While students may audition for more than one Talent Award, only the highest scholarship will be added to the financial aid offer. Music scholarships are in addition to any academic scholarship and most are renewable up to four years. Scholarships are issued to students who have been admitted to Luther and can include the following:

Weston Noble Music Scholarships recognize incoming students who display outstanding potential for participation in Luther's major music organizations. Music faculty award scholarships in several areas of interest, including vocal music, band, orchestra, keyboard and jazz.

Value:
$12,000 to $28,000 over four years ($3,000 to $7,000 per year).

Selection Criteria:
Awards are given to students who display outstanding potential for participation in music at Luther.

Application:
Complete Luther admission application and audition with Music Department before the March deadline.

Renewal:
Renewable for students enrolled full-time up to 8 semesters providing that the student is maintaining satisfactory academic progress and participating in both a qualifying ensemble and applied music lessons in the area of the scholarship (1 credit).*

Notes:

*Applied music lessons incur an additional charge each semester.

Applicants do not need to major in music to be eligible. This scholarship is offered in addition to other academic awards and scholarships for which students may qualify. Students may audition in up to two instruments but the scholarship is awarded in one instrument area. (typically the highest but students may select either.)

Participation in additional ensemble areas is still possible, but will not count toward the participation requirement for annual renewal of the scholarship.

For more information, please see the Music Department Student Guidelines.

$4,000 over four years ($1,000 per year).

Special gifts in direct support of Luther’s program of financial assistance have established a number of scholarships for Luther students. Endowed Scholarships annually assist a large number of upper-class music majors who meet the eligibility conditions specified for each scholarship. Recipients of these scholarships are selected by the faculty and the student financial aid office.
