Student Engagement

At Luther, it’s all about community. This is where you'll participate in classes, work with others, and engage in your favorite activities. You will become an integral part of the whole college experience. Students find it’s easy to become involved and make lasting friendships through Luther’s:

A Residential Campus

Part of what creates an engaged student body and a deep sense of community at Luther is the fact that students live right here on campus. Luther offers newly renovated, modern, and welcoming residence halls.

Activities

With over 80 recognized student organizations on campus, it’s easy to find classmates who share your interests. And a constant stream of performances, lectures, films, and other events means that there’s always something to do on campus.

Wellness and Recreation

Luther offers a variety of athletic facilities. These include the Regents Center, which houses sports courts, an indoor track, an eight-lane pool, and the Legends Fitness Center, which offers students 10,000 square feet of cardiovascular-conditioning machines, free weights, and weight machines. For those who prefer outdoor exercise, our 1,000-acre campus features several natural areas, including a five-mile trail and a disc-golf course. The Decorah area also offers abundant hiking, fishing, caving, biking, and skiing opportunities.

Students can check out outdoor equipment through Recreational Services. They have everything you need for a weekend camping trip ranging from tents and backpacks to cookware and sleeping bags—even marshmallow rods. River enthusiasts can reserve kayaks or canoes; climbers can borrow helmets, harnesses, and a belaying device; and during winter students can check out snowshoes—all completely free.

A Student-Centered Support Staff

The Luther staff is here to support all facets of your life as a student. A comprehensive outpatient health clinic keeps you strong in body, a registered dietitian is available to assist you with eating and nutrition concerns, and a counseling service is available to keep you equally strong in spirit. The Career Center will help when you need help finding an internship, landing a job, or choosing a major. The Center for Intercultural Engagement and Student Success invites students of all backgrounds to drop in for support and conversation.
